Derived from the Hebrew Yitro, which is from yitro (abundance, excellence). The name is borne in the Bible by the father of Zipporah, the wife of Moses. In Britain the name was borne by the noted agriculturalist Jethro Tull (1674 - 1741), whose name was adopted in 1968 by the British rock band Jethro Tull.
