I was raised Catholic where being named after a saint is a still a strong tradition. I didn't find any saints names that I liked so I went to the Bible and saw the book of Romans. I also thought it spoke to our religious tradition because we are Roman Catholic.

I have at times been complimented on my name by others when introducing myself to them. The name Roman is not over used and that makes it nice when amongst others, because I never had to ask which Roman. I am glad that there are no nicknames, teasing names, or shortenings asociated with my name.
My Roman is named after my grandfather. Roman was his last name and he only had daughters, so we are keeping the name alive. Our family originates from southern Spain, where the name is pronounced with enphasis in the second syllable, roMOHN.

Our fourth son is named Roman. We are a Christian family and I wanted a Biblical name to go with all our other sons names...something that anyone could spell-- (e.g. Ethan, Benjamin, Lucas, and now Roman).
