People usually ask me if my name: Gabby is short for something, in my case Gabby is my full name. I think it is a really unique name, and really easy to remember.
I have a friend name Gabby and she knew that my dad speaks Portuguese so she asked him to translate her name. gabby in Portuguese is bokozinia (not sure if I spelled that right) and if you translate it back into English, the literal translation is little girl with a big mouth. :) so now I tease her about it all the time and call her bokozinia.

Cute and short alternative to a long name like Gabriella or Gabrielle.
When I was a kid in the 50's I didn't like my name and I wanted to be called Gabby, and I told my schoolmates to call me Gabby. But they started calling me "Gabby Hayes" (an old man with a beard on TV). After that I no longer wanted to be called Gabby.
