- Comments and insights on the name Jacqueline
As a Jacqueline myself, I really had to grow into my name. It didn't fit so well when I was child, but I began to like it more in high school and into college. It certainly is unique in this time period; there was only one other Jacqueline in my area throughout elementary school and high school. Plus, I am a writer and my full name, Jacqueline Renee, sounds sophisticated and intelligent.
Surprisingly, as a Jacqueline born during the JFK era, I only went to school with one other Jacqueline. (Funny thing was, we shared the same last name too.) Then I noticed more little girls named Jacqueline in the 1980's.
Of course, I went by Jackie; when I was in 1st grade, I really wanted to be a Kathy instead! Now I am grateful to have a name that is not so stuck in time--at least not in a specific generation.
If you look at the NameVoyager, Jacqueline is truly a modern, 20th-century classic.
- Personal experiences with the name Jacqueline
My soulmate Jacqueline is just the most loveable woman in the world and her namesake follows, friend, confidant,a little forgetful but redeems herself in many ways.
It can be a long name for a child to have to spell, which is why you need a nickname you can live with.
I personally prefer "Jacquie" to "Jackie", and wish that I had been taught the first spelling as a child.
As an adult, in situations with new people, my name is often pronounced "JACK-a-lyn", which is probably easier to say than "JA-kwel-lyn". However, I prefer keeping the "QU" in the pronunciation.
