- Comments and insights on the name Kaitlyn
I am 23 and named Kaitlyn. Immediately following my birth in 1987 Kaitlyn became very popular (spelled many different ways- Caitlin, Kaitlin, Katelynn, etc.) As a result I have known many many many people with my name. However, I do like that the name stayed popular for a long period of time (still fairly popular today) because at least its not one of those names rooted in a time period (like Kelly, Brittany, etc)I generally go by Kait, NEVER Katie because I'm not really the cutesy soft spoken type. Overall I think Kaitlyn is a decent name, just not very unique.
- Personal experiences with the name Kaitlyn
My name is unfortunantly Kaitlyn. I'm seventeen now, and i've never liked it. I've always tried to change it, or have people use nicknames, but no one will do it. I absolutley HATE Katie and Kate and whatnot, because they're even less unique than Kaitlyn. I wish my parents had at least spelled it weird...Keightlon or Kaetlynn or Kaetleynn or something....
I've seen many good nicknames like Krackers, KK, Kicklin, Kicklie, and i've tried to go by Kab, which is my initials, but no one will do it. Sigh. I really don't like how un-unique this is, but it could be MUCH worse (Brittany, Jessica, Ashley....blah blah blah).
My parents considered Zoey and Layne and some other things, all of which were pretty much better...As one of about 6 million Kaitlyns, i advise you to pick a different spelling. Go to an Irish baby name website. You'll thank me later.
I have had a lot of Kaitlyn's in my life and I have loved them all. A friend named Kaitlyn when I was 6 who moved away, My friend Caitlyn who has been like a sister to me since we were born and now my second born child named Kaitlyn Leigh. Kaitlyn loves her name and her nickname, Katie.

Hi, I'm the person who wrote that ^^^ 3 years ago. i'm twenty now and I've grown to love my name. I do like being called kab, Kit, or Kate sometimes, but Kaitlyn isn't really that bad. It fits me and I love it. I guess I've grown into it!
Hi! Another Kaitlyn (middle name Marlene) here. I've always liked my name. I like the spelling but I've always kind of wished it was spelled "Caitlin" just because it's more common. If you're considering this name for your child, PLEASE don't get too crazy with the spelling. I like to think this spelling of Kaitlyn isn't complicated but people want to add all kinds of extra E's and N's and it's super annoying. One of the only complaints I have is that it is SO popular. There were 4 other Kaitlyns in my graduating class (keep in mind there were only like 70 of us, lol). But overall, I like my name and I've never really had any negative experiences with it.
One of my best friends is named Kaitlyn but I always call her Katie. She has spelled her nickname many ways over the years but also goes back to this spelling of her nickname. She is so sweet and supportive and will always be here for me. She'll give advice and help me through any tough spot that I'm in.
