Madison
Origin of the name Madison:
Transferred use of the surname meaning "Mad's son." Mad was a common pet form of Matthew (gift of God) during the Middle Ages. Madison may also be a matronymic derived from the name Maud, an old pet form of Mathilda (battle mighty): hence, "son of Maud."

I'm 27, growing up, hardly anyone had the name Madison, I went to a school with 2000 kids and only one other Madison who was a grade below me. Another girl went by Madison but that was her middle name. After about 1995, the name EXPLODED and it seemed like every other girl was named Madison. I think it's VERY overused now and wasn't that common as a boys name in years past. My mom never saw the movie Splash, she used it as a more common spelling for a complicated Irish name.
I am a 22 year old GIRL Madison and my name has never been mistaken for a boys name. Although it's become a very popular name of late, I was the only Madison/Maddie in my class, and my moniker fits me perfectly. It's strong, but still has a dash of girly. If you are considering the name, you have heard it from a wife/soon-to-be mother/professional named Madison that it's a great name. The only downfall is that it's so popular now that it's almost becoming the new "Jennifer" or "Ashley" - good luck to all you Mommies and/or Name Lovers!
My name is Madison and I don't really like it because it's waaaay too common:(
My real name is Madison but I absolutely hate it! It's too common and sounds so girlish. And I'm a girl.
One of my BFFs is named Madison, as the person up above me said a name for a warrior. Madison is DEFINATLY a warrior!!!
Madison became a fad after the movie "Splash" mermaid was named Madison after a street sign.
Madison feels like a fad to me.
- Personal experiences with the name Madison
My cousin's name is Madison (we call her Maddie or May-May) and I love it! It matches her personality and it's perfect. Love it!
My name is Madison and for how common it is, I've only ever met two other girls with my name, both four or so years apart from me age wise. Honestly I would have expected to meet more of them, with how common the name is but there are so many more kids with my twin's name (which wasn't nearly as popular as Madison when we were born).
My name is Madison and my father calls me Madis or Maddi At my school I go by Maddi. When I was little, I hated the name for how common it was, but for now, I adore the name and it's a beautiful girl name. I highly suggest this name for any soon to be mommy, it's very wise and strong, but still has a good amount of girly and tomboy! Also, I highly suggest using the original spelling. All the other "creative" respellings are just plain stupid. An original, correctly spelled name is better! Good luck!
