- Comments and insights on the name Selah
There are 2 Selah's in the Hebrew Language, the name is derived from the one that means: A Rock, A Strong tower, and A Fortress. The one featured in the Psalms is a musical term meaning to pause and reflect/meditate on what has been said. I named my first daughter this name and loved the duality of the meanings, she has definitely already embodied them both.
However there are still quite a few people that insist on pronouncing it SEE-lah or say-LAW even though the more accurate pronunciations are SAY-lah and SEH-lah. Over all we've found a gentle reminder usually corrects that.

"Selah" is a song by Lauryn Hill, whose daughter's name is Selah.
The Hebrew word selah appears throughout the Book of Psalms. Its precise meaning is mysterious, but it is interpreted as a pause to breathe and reflect on the important words just uttered. The term has also been adopted by Rastafarians. Sela, as in actress Sela Ward, is an unrelated biblical place name usually pronounced SEE-lə.
