- Comments and insights on the name Sofia
It's just way too popular of a name!
In some south-Slavic languages such as Serbian(Софиja) or Bulgarian(София), Sofia is pronounced is such a way to hear sound Y(So-fee-Yaa). }
Although this is SO SO SO popular, I do not know any Sofias or Sophias. Strange!
- Personal experiences with the name Sofia
Before using this name, I would look at the comments on the Sophia page. It's basically the same name and there are tons and tons of Sophias and Sofias out there. Make sure you like the sound of Sofia with the first initial of your last name because she won't be the only one in her class or on the soccer field! If you last name begins with O, she will be Sofia O everywhere she goes.
*My name is Sofia and I love my name, except for two things. I was born when Sofia was not AT ALL common, and it really is a beautiful name. It remains a beautiful name, albeit much more annoyingly common. Another thing, this spelling is more uncommon than Sophia, but (in my opinion), more beautiful. She will have to struggle from time to time with the F vs. PH spelling, but people will get the hang of it.
My name is Sofia Denise, and I love this name! It really fits me. I like the F spelling too, and I've never met another soFie, just soPHies.My name is Sofia Antonia and I used to hate my name because people would always spell it 'Sophia'. I have grown to love my name and it's meaning. I also love how it represents who I am, as I am part Bulgarian and Sofia is the capital.
My name is Sofia (born -87) and I'm from Sweden. I grew up with Sofia's all over the place. I had 3 other Sofia's in my class and several others in the same school with the same spelling, so we all had to go by our last names instead. I became either "Sofia An" (we had another one with the last name Adolfsson) or "Andersson" - and then the boys were calling me "Pamela Anderson" which was NOT fun. I HATE my name. I go by Fia/Feeya instead. Now that I live in the U.S. (my husband is American), people ALWAYS spell it Sophia. It's so annoying. They sometimes like to call me Sophie, which I personally really dislike a lot. I never did like my name, it's way too common. Anything else would be better, so I seriously thought about changing it. But it was my dad who chose the name and he passed away -02, so I simply didn't have the heart to do anything about it. I'll make sure to pick a better name for my own kids instead.
My name is Sofia and I love it so much! The meaning, the sound, and the spelling are so pretty I'm so glad I have this name, even though it's way too popular in my native country (I've known more han 10 Sofias in my entire life). Now that I live in the U.S. I don't find it annoying at all that it is misspelled with a PH. I'm actually happy about it. It makes me special!
This is my middle name and I love it!!! It’s a beautiful name that goes well with my first name Victoria, has a nice meaning(wisdom), is cross-cultural(it is used in practically every Western country and every European language), and very popular(in my country the name Sofia ranked as the #1 most popular girl name for several years).
