Wanda Name Meaning & Origin
Origin of the name Wanda:
Of uncertain etymology, Wanda is generally believed to be of Germanic origin, perhaps from vond (wand, stem, young tree), or from Wend, a term denoting a member of the old Slavic people who now live in an enclave south of Berlin. The name was used in 1883 by author Ouida, who chose it for the heroine of her novel Wanda.

I went to elementary school with a Wanda and because of her religion, she wasn't allowed to wear shorts for our P.E. classes. She had to wear bulky skirts to exercise. There was probably more danger of her showing anything in that skirt than if she'd worn shorts.
I think Wanda is a Polish name. There was a restaurant where I used to go with the girls at work on my lunch hour, and the waitress there was middle aged and frumpy. One of the girls said "She looks like a Wanda-ski."
Well, it's not the worst.
The only Wanda I ever knew was when I was in elementary school, and she was neither unattractive or frumpy. She was a nice looking girl with blond hair and blue eyes.
My name is Juanda (pronounced like Wanda) and I'm not ugly or frumpy.
